Can anyone tell me what this ad meant when it ran in the 80's? And what it was all about?

    That was Shooter's New Universe concept - a more "realistic" comic universe completely unrelated to the current Marvel universe. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Universe for more.
